Young Women’s Leadership in Rural Development

When given access to tools and resources, young women change their communities and the world! In our projects, Girls Action looks at the availability and accessibility of resources from regional perspectives; in this case, rural areas.

Goal:  Young women in rural communities often face issues such as violence, drug and alcohol abuse, racism, limited services and resources, and a lack of opportunities. Yet young people are the future of rural areas. The goal of this project is to support the leadership development of young women. The project will improve the skills of young women to make their communities more livable and sustainable, and equip communities to increase opportunities for rural young women’s advancement.

Objectives:

  • To exchange of knowledge and effective strategies among rural organizations from diverse communities on the retention and leadership development of young women
  • To develop and disseminate tools for rural decision-makers and organizations to increase young women’s contribution to community development.
  • To support young women’s local action projects in rural communities to address their priority issues impacting the community
  • To increase collaboration and partnerships among rural youth-serving organizations regionally and nationally

This project was made possible in part by the support of Agriculture & Agri-Food Canada
